Senior Developer - Backend Apps

We are an IoT location-based-services company looking for a talented software developer to join a small development team in a full-time capacity. This is primarily a back-end development position for server-side applications that communicate with a growing number of mobile devices.

You will be working alongside the CTO on developing features for our main product: a web service that finds and tracks vehicles. Since this is a small team, you will have the opportunity to work with several different technologies in a high-volume, high-availability environment and have a significant impact on the overall solution.

This is a remote position which means you can work from home, but must be capable of working independently and possess good communication skills.

Pay commensurate with experience.

Job Responsibilities:

• Ability to quickly come up to speed with existing code base
• Develop and enhance software back-end applications.
• Collaborate with management and the development team to meet/deliver the business objectives.
• Perform scope definitions, work effort estimates and deliver projects within the determined timeframe.
• Create technical documentation as required.
• Lead efforts in problem solving and offering solutions in the development of application code.

Job Requirements:

Must be skilled in the following areas:

• Strong experience in Ruby
• Strong experience with SQL queries (especially MySql family)
• Experience with real-time communications and programming for scalable, high-availability environments.
• Familiar and comfortable with Linux/Ubuntu environment

Nice to Have Skillset:

• Ruby on Rails or other MVC web frameworks
• Basic web/HTML5 (javascript/jquery, css/bootstrap)
• Client-side API integration experience
• Websockets and/or push notifications
• Message Queueing

Additional Requirements:

• Must possess a solid understanding of software development tools (Git, bug tracking, documentation) and Agile development principles.
• Must be located in the USA, and be a US citizen or have a US work permit (No visa sponsorship).
• Must have a Bachelor's degree or higher.
• Must have 5 years of development experience or equivalent
